X
Axis
- The
X-axis of the iron-iron C Equilibrium Diagram shows the various percentages of
Carbon in alloy Ferrite.
- The
Carbon and Ferrite percentage begins from 0% and 100% and ends at 5% and 95%.
- The
X-axis designates whether the metal would be considered Pure Iron, Steel,
Semi-Steel and Cast Iron.
- It
also distinguishes between Hypo Eutectoid and Hyper Eutectoid and Hypo
Eutectic and Hyper Eutectic.
- Above 4.3% C is Hyper
Eutectic. Below is Hyper Eutectic. Below .83% C, the specimen is Hypo
Eutectoid and more than .83% C, the specimen is Hyper Eutectoid.
Y Axis
- The
Y-axis of the iron-iron C Equilibrium Diagram shows temperature range from 0
to 3000 degrees Fahrenheit.
- It
also shows temperature in centigrade ranging from 0 to1500 degrees
Celsius.
- It
also denotes the Critical temperature point-Lower Critical Temperature and
Upper Critical Temperature.
- It
also specifies the magnetic point, where particular combination of iron and
carbon changes its magnetic properties.
- Depending on different
carbon %, in addition of different ratings scale, the metals will react
differently.
